Gardini’s Strength Overcomes Meyers

Renato Gardini and Fred Meyers wrestled for 40 minutes at the New Ridgewood Grove last night with neither having any perceptible advantage.  Then Meyers suddenly surprised Gardini by grabbing him by the scruff of the neck and hurling him sidewise across the ring.

Gardini arose, scowling, and met Meyers’ attack by encircling his arms about the body of the Jewish champion.  Meyers was lifted over Gardini’s head and thrown to the mat.  The bout was to have been to a finish.

The carded feature wrestling bout at the Ridgewood Grove last night was the Hans Steinke-Tommy Draak tussle, but the semi-final between Abe Coleman and Fred Meyers, which was billed to decide the Jewish heavyweight championship, stole the thunder from the main attraction and converted itself into one of the best bouts held at the Ridgewood this season.  Meyers won.  The match lasted 36 minutes, but every minute of the time was filled with action.

Londos Grapples Siki On 71st Regiment Mat

Jim Londos is preparing himself for a tough tussle when he encounters Reginald Siki in the finish match at the Seventy-first Regiment Armory, Monday night.

Siki is young, speedy and is master of the toe hold, and those who follow wrestling know that Londos doesn’t care much for this trick hold.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10. – Joe Stecher, world’s wrestling heavyweight champion, tonight successfully defended his title against Renato Gardini the Italian challenger.

The match was looked forward to with good deal of interest here among the followers of the game.  A good sized crowd turned out to see the two grapplers.

Ray Steele won over George Zaharias in the main event of Lou Daro’s wrestling match last night at the Olympic by gaining the “rubber” fall with a full nelson in 16m. and 50s. A istic fight between the gladiators followed, but Daro separated them before any bodily harm was done.

“Oh No, Mr. Referee, You Can’t Tell Me What to Do,” Says Mr. Dusek
Shortly before his title match with champion, Danno O’Mahoney, was stopped when a flock of policemen jumped into the ring, Challenger Ernie Dusek got plenty rough, or so referee Dickerhoff though. Dusek was duly warned of this but Mr. Dusek didn’t care to be warned about it, and so told Mr. Dickerhoff while applying a toe hold on the disinterested O’Mahoney. The above shows the argument in full bloom, with no sound effect. The wrestlers’ purses were held up by the boxing commission.

Jump Into Ring After O’Mahoney and Dusek Refuse To Halt When Bout Is Called Draw By Referee.

While Charley Chaplin gave up cop-chases as a part of his comedy act back as far as the old Keystone Comedy days, the gentlemen who control wrestling in the country felt all along, apparently, that Pittsburgh had never seen enough of the time-honored situation so last night a squad of Pittsburgh’s finest were inducted into the action in the sketch between Danno O’Mahoney, dubbed the wrestling champion of the world, and Ernie Dusek, a Midwesterner, in the North Side Arena.
