750 See Tag Team Wrestling

Brattleboro Daily Reformer – April 21, 1956

A crowd of 750 was on hand last night at the Community Hall to see the feature event, four girls in an Australian Tag team match.  Darling Bambi Ball and Princess Ramona took the second and third falls of the match to win over Slave Girl Zoola and Alma Mills.  The three falls lasted for a total of 22 minutes.

The semi-final, a two out of three fall event with a 45-minute time limit, went to Rebel Bob Russell who pinned Danny Boy Arnold in the first and third falls.  This match lasted 30 minutes.  Jessie James pinned Dynamite Dunn in 23 minutes to take the lid-lifter.  Leo Justin was the referee.

Another wrestling card will be held next Friday.

Princess Ramona will be one of the quartet to engage in a tag team match at Community Hall tomorrow night.  Others will be Slave Girl Zoolah, Alma Mills and Darling Bambi Ball.  The show gets underway at 8:30 p.m.

If you can’t imagine the Lady Angel, the ugliest woman wrestler in the world, pleading and actually shedding tears, you should have seen her with Matchmaker Toots Mondt yesterday.

The Lady Angel, who with Amazon Alma Mills, lost the Southeastern women’s tag team match to the Golden Venus and her partner, Betty Burke, spent more than an hour with Toots, crying and begging for a chance to win this crown with a new partner.

The big-hearted Bluefield matchmaker, though he had decided firmly against it, finally gave in and agreed.  So it is that The Lady Angel and Bambi Ball, explosive California redhead, will team up against the gal from Gay Paree and Florida’s gift to feminine wrestling here this Saturday night.  And the Southeastern title will again be the prize at stake.

Wrestling at HS Gym Tonight

Alma Mills, Bambi Ball, Lucille Dupre and Mona Baker will share tonight’s wrestling program at the Wilmington High school gymnasium. The quartet will participate in an Australian tag match with Alma and Bambi facing Lucille and Mona. The semi-final will pit the popular Vince Garibaldi and Sir Robert Randall in a special midget match. Golden Boy Dupre tackles the Masked Ray Kilroy in a 20-minute limit bout. Another match, to be announced at ring side, will open the 8 p. m. program. Proceeds to go to the Wilmington Rotary Student Loan fund, which helps local high school students further their education.

WILMINGTON – Heading an all-star card of top TV matmen, the women’s world wrestling champion, Alma Mills has been signed to wrestle in Wilmington at the High School Gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 8:00 p.m. Matched with Bambi Ball of California, Champ Alma will take on the formidable Mona Baker of Kentucky and Lucille Dupre of Montreal in a free-for-all tag team match, in the main event, 2 falls out of 3 with a 1 hour time limit.

NORTH ATTLEBORO — Five bouts will be presented Friday night at Witschi’s Sports Arena with Enrico (Ponzi) Gregnolia taking on Ivan Strogoff in the 8:30 curtain raiser.

Other heavyweight pairings are Curt (Killer) Douglas vs. Jesse James and Chuck Montana vs. Golden Boy Dupree. In feminine circles Alma Mills grapples Mona Baker and Lucille Paulhus goes against Bambi Ball.

In the top attraction Mona Baker and Lucille Paulhus will team against Alma Mills and Bambi Ball. Heavyweight pairings are Chuck Sasso vs. Chuck Montana; Manuel Bonica vs. Golden Boy Dupree and Enrico Ponzi vs. Nick Valley.

The women grapplers will take the spotlight at the North Attleboro Sports Arena wrestling show Friday night. A tag team match will see four of them in a tussle for best of three falls.

Alma Mills, always the villainess, will move in from Ontario to join her friend, Bambi Ball, the Alabama Bomber, for a struggle with Mona Baker and Penny Manor.

Pancho Mendoza, the flying Mexican, will clash with Jesse James in the semifinal go, while Tony Enos will meet Sgt. Steve Conley of the Marines in the opener.
