Rocca, Starr In Mat Show At Sunnyside

The biggest assemblage of pro wrestling’s top stars to be seen at Sunnyside Garden in many weeks will be in action at the Queens boulevard club tonight.

Antonino Rocca meets Fritz Mueller of Germany in the 8:30 P. M. non-TV opener.  Ricki Starr, ballet dancing matman, whirls with Al Smith, and Dr. Jerry Graham, Hollywood ruffian, takes on Lou Albano.

Chris and John Tolos, well-known Greek brother act, go against a new Negro combine, Charley Robinson and Frank James, while Pampero Firpo and Antonio the Great mix with Larry Simon and Miguel Torres.

Girl wrestlers will be the feature attraction Saturday night at the weekly wrestling show in the Seaside Sports Arena at Salisbury Beach.

Elaine Perry, solidly built performer from Providence R. I., who has been in feature matches at Salisbury Beach a couple of times this season, will be one of the principals. She will oppose Alma Mills from Alberta, Can. Alma is remembered by regular patrons as having given plenty of action in recent seasons.

Joe Maruco To Try Again Thursday Eve

Dismayed but not discouraged by the slim crowds attending his weekly mat shows, Promoter Joe Maruco is going to try it again Thursday night at Glovers Bowl.

For his top attraction, he will have two girl wrestlers pitted against each other, Alma Mills, who made a big hit at the opening show, meeting Vicke Lee of San Francisco.

Carpentier in Beach Mat Win; Girls Top Card for Saturday

Tall and handsome Paul Carpentier of Montreal bested Frank James in two Straight falls Saturday night’s feature bout of the outdoor wrestling show at Salisbury Beach. Carpentier, present world’s champion, made his first appearance at Salisbury Beach. His speed and skill and his muscular development impressed many fans. James, colored champion, didn’t have the qualifications to match Carpentier and his roughness didn’t help much. After the bout Carpentier was besieged by autograph seekers and amateur photographers.

Ida Mae, Elaine Win Beach Bouts

The complete card for the outdoor wrestling show at Salisbury Beach Saturday night was announced today. The headline bout will be a tag team match with four girls taking part.

Patty Neff of Ohio and Ida Mae Martinez of Mexico will oppose Alma Mills of Canada and Elaine Ellis of Detroit.
