Strongbow, Russell Win Team Match

San Pedro News-Pilot – March 20, 1946

The wrestling duo of Indian Jules Strongbow and Rebel Russell last night defeated Tug Carlson and Vic Holbrook two falls out of three in a tag team match at Wilmington Bowl.

In the preliminaries, Bud Curtis, 210, used a double toehold to throw Mickey Page, 225, and Tex Jones, 240, pinned Don Mclntyre, 245, with a head twist.

Rebel Tests Newcomer

San Pedro News-Pilot – April 23, 1946

Rebel Russell, coast heavyweight wrestling champion, tonight tests George Becker, newcomer from the east, in the three-fall feature match at Wilmington bowl.

Becker, described as a scientific grappler, has been winning in New York and Philadelphia rings.

George Temple will meet Armand Tanny in the special event. Temple is scheduled to leave soon on an eastern tour.

Other bouts pit Vic Holbrook against Bomber Kulkovich and Bud Curtis against Brother Frank.

Mat Toughies Perform at Bowl Tonight

San Pedro News-Pilot – March 19, 1946

Giant Jules Strongbow, 345pound Cherokee Indian, tonight teams with Rebel Russell, mat meanie from Georgia, against Tug Carlson and Henry (Bomber) Kulkovich in a tag team match at Wilmington Bowl.

Although the rough and tumble tactics of Russell and Strongbow figure to be too much for the average opposing team, the fact that Carlson and Kulkovich are undefeated as a team and have worked out a system of coordinated effort may prove the downfall of the two roughers.

Tag Team Go Ends In Riot As Rope Snaps

What happened to the top strand of the ring rope in the Fresno Memorial Auditorium is almost as big a puzzler to DAV Club wrestling matchmaker as what happened to the usual steady crowd of mat fans last night. There were few to see the show.

Torres Brothers Win Wild Match At Auditorium

The Torres brothers, Enrique and Ramon, defeated Big Ben Sharpe and Smiling Bud Curtis in one of the wildest wrestling matches seen here this year last night at Municipal Auditorium.

With the fans standing up and screaming at the fast action, the wrestlers kept the auditorium in an almost continuous uproar as they grappled in and out of the ring and chased each other down the aisles. Continue reading
