Two Men Added to Next Week’s Wrestle Royal

The Evening Independent – September 30, 1938

Two changes in the lineup for next Tuesday night’s wrestle royal at the Legion Downtown arena were announced today by Matchmaker Willis Williams.  Paul Harper, Memphis giant, and Johnny Plummer, the Iowa blacksmith, have replaced Henry Graber and Big Bill Middlekauff.

Graber is transferring to another territory after a defeat by Pete Managoff, the Turk, at Tampa Monday night and Middlekauff is booked elsewhere for the coming week.

Harper has met many of the top men in the mat game, including Jim Londos and Dick Shikat, both former world’s champions, and Steve (Crusher) Casey, the present title holder.  Plummer, a former state champion, needs no introduction.

With Harper and Plummer in the wrestle royal will be Cowboy Luttrall, Rolland Kirchmeyer, Managoff and Sam Manacher.  Managoff and Manacher are newcomers.

The six men, as eliminated in the wrestle royal, will pair off in three matches.  Two referees will handle the opening feature.
