O’Mahoney And Dusek Head Wrestling Show

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette – December 30, 1935

Dan O’Mahoney, heavyweight wrestling champion; four of the five famous Dusek brothers; Sandor Vary, European mat title-holder and five other prominent grapplers will grace Promoter Elwood Rigby’s card at the Arena next Monday night.

O’Mahoney is scheduled to meet Ernie Dusek, rated the best of the Omaha mat family, in the feature one fall to a finish match.  The same pair tangled in Cleveland two months ago and the bout ended in a 90-minute draw.

Joey Dusek will take on Vic Christy, a local favorite, in the 45-minute semi-final, while Walter Dusek goes to the post against Joe Tonti, of Midland, former Geneva and Temple footballer, in one of the 30-minute preliminaries.

Other half hour matches will find Charley Strack, of Colgate fame, opposing Hans Steinke, giant German, while Sandor Vary, the Hungarian European champion, makes his local bow against John Swenski of Holy Cross, in a special extra-added attraction bout.
