Kick to Chin Upsets Siki in Main Bout at Stadium

A well placed kick to the chin enabled Karol Zbyszko of Chicago to defeat a heavier and stronger opponent in the main match of the Albany Sports Club wrestling show in Hawkins Stadium last night.

Zbyszko was wrestling Reginald Siki, Senegalese who holds the European championship, and was behind on points despite his best efforts.  The Negro’s greater weight and strength seemed too much of a handicap.  Siki however, grabbed both of Zbyszko’s legs after 44 minutes of grappling and stood erect in an effort to force Zbyszko’s shoulders to the mat.

Zbyszko rolled back and forth and managed to pull his left leg free.  He straightened it suddenly catching Siki under the chin with his foot and toppling the Negro on his back.  Karol was quick to follow the advantage and won with a body press.

Siki weighed 218 and Zbyszko 200.

Charley Hansen of Seattle used a series of flying mares to pin Benny Ginsberg of New York after 19 minutes and 52 seconds of the semi-final.  Hansen did all the wrestling while Ginsberg displayed a variety of fouls and kicked Referee Tommy Dorr after the latter had slapped him.

Ginsberg substituted for Mike Romano.

Mike Mazurki of Cohoes scored with a flying tackle to defeat Pat Fraley of Canada after 21 minutes and five seconds in the second preliminary.

Mazurki weight 224 and Fraley 216.

Jack Riley, former Northwestern football star, went a half hour to a draw with Matros Kerilenko of Russia in the opening.  Riley entered the ring with his right shoulder strapped and made little use of his arm.

He weighed 202 to 210 for Kerilenko.
