Germaine, Ruffen In Coats’ Opener

The Pawtucket Times – January 16, 1947

Ted Germaine, king of wrestling’s “villains” returns once more to Pawtucket tomorrow night to meet Les Ruffen, another tough performer, in the one-fall preliminary on the program featuring Steve “Crusher” Casey of County Kerry, Ireland, and Wilbur Nead, husky ex-Iowa football star, at J. & P. Coats recreation hall.

Germaine has made several showings in Pawtucket and always welcomes the opportunity to return for he figures it is his lucky arena. The ace “bad” man has met with considerable success at Coats’ and has yet to meet his equal. However, he will more than have his hands full with the wily Ruffen, who can also forget the rules and resort to roughhouse tactics.

While the Meadowbrook Sporting Club promoters were busy completing the card for tomorrow night interest was mounting in the main event between Casey and Nead. Casey’s last match in Pawtucket with Marvin Westenberg, ex-champion, is still fresh in the minds of wrestling fans. It was lauded by old-timers and newcomers alike as one of the best matches they’ve seen in a long, long time.

Jim “Goon” Henry of Oklahoma, slugging matman, meets Ike McNabb, bewhiskered newcomer from Missouri, in the semi-final, best of three falls with a 45-minute time limit.
