Ten Years Away

The Pittsburgh Courier – February 12, 1931

from the jungle – according to his manager, who resents a veiled insinuation that his man is a native of Buffalo, N. Y. – Reginald Siki, who earns a living as a wrestler, has accepted the challenge of civilization and answered it very well.

Siki was born in Africa 28 years ago, a tribesman.  An Italian sculptor traveling through the wilds of Abyssinia was impressed by the powerful symmetrical physique of the sable giant and brought him to Italy.

Reginald was used as an artist’s model and his services were in demand.  But Siki, used to the tremendous toil of the jungle, wanted work, hard work.  Sculptors and artists saw a real need for this strenuous toil, as Siki was becoming flabby, but they felt that the work of a laborer would result in development that would be unsymmetrical.  So they suggested wrestling, a sport that develops almost every muscle in the body, and that is how Reginald became a wrestler – and a good one.

Siki is intelligent and ambitious.  He learned six languages during his travels in Europe and is able to write and converse fairly well in all of them.  He speaks French, Italian, Spanish, English, German and his native tongue.  He reads untiringly and his favorite authors are Shakespeare, Byron and Shelley.
