Pins Austeri In Main Bout At Kanter’s

Jimmy Austeri, Clifton grappler, returned to local mat warfare last night at Kanter’s Auditorium but his 1945 debut was an inauspicious one as he dropped the feature wrestling bout to Reb Russell.

Rothenberg Victor

Russell, Texas grappler, used numerous illegal tactics in his match with Austeri.  The bout was rough throughout with Russell being booed by the fans for his unfair tactics.

The Texan won the first fall in the time of ten minutes and 52 seconds, using a body slam, while Austeri took the second fall in two minutes and twelve seconds with a body press.

Russell ended the bout after seven minutes and twelve seconds when he pinned Austeri in the third fall.

In the opening bout, Murray Rothenberg, East Paterson grappler, pinned Ed Straab, of Brooklyn, in 22 minutes.  Rothenberg has been impressive in his Passaic showings and may earn a bout with either Russell or Austeri.

Abe Yourist and Pete McKay battled to a 30 minute draw in the second bout while Pat Welsh, using a cradle hold, pinned Charley Straak in ten minutes and 30 seconds.

Another all star mat card will be presented next Wednesday night.
