Jackie Nichols Wins Over LaDue

Paavo Knocked Out In Go With Fenton

Monte LaDue, the rowdy mustached Canadian grappler, got a little rough last night in his match with Jackie Nichols of down Maine way but it didn’t do him much good.  Nichols won the main event of the Civic Auditorium mat show last night in consecutive falls.

After taking a lot of abuse from LaDue in the first fall, Nichols suddenly slapped on his favorite body grapevine in 14 minutes and then he came back to take the second fall with a back drop and pin in 10 minutes.

Paavo Ketonen, the rugged Finlander, lost to Rod Fenton in the semi-final when he couldn’t come back for the third fall.  Fenton took the first fall in 13 minutes with a hammerlock and Ketonen took the second with a crab hold in six minutes.

A combination of Fenton and the referee in breaking the crab hold sent Ketonen flying out of the ring.  His head banged the concrete a bit and knocked him out for a minute or two and he was unable to come back for the deciding fall.

Gordon Hessell of Miwaukee and Rufus Jones, Toledo 195 pounder, went to a fast draw in the 30 minute curtain raiser.
