MONTREAL, Dec. 8. – George Clark of Dundee, Scotland, originator of wrestling’s new “Highland fling,” defeated Al Mercier of Rimouski, Que., in a single-fall grappling bout here last night.
The Scotsman bewildered his opponent with the curious manoeuvre and used it to slap him to the mat on five or six occasions before winning in 19:53.
Clark weighed 231 and Mercier 217 pounds.
Steve Casey of Ireland, 230, won from Cy Williams, 224-pound Floridian, in two falls. Casey took the first in 16:46 with an airplane spin and tossed Williams out of the ring to win the second fall in 3:44.
