Saskatoon Star-Phoenix – February 15, 1961
Saskatoon fans have seen some really big wrestling action in recent weeks, but here’s a card that tops them all. It includes Mr. “Golden Locks” himself, Gorgeous George, in a one-fall one-hour time limit match against John “Gorky” Smith (below). “Gorgeous,” who is shown here with Jack Benny, and Smith are two of the meanest customers in the business, and there’s no love lost between them – which all adds up to plenty of action and excitement this Thursday at 8.30 in the Arena.
Main event is a tag team match featuring Gino Marella and Ed Francis against Mighty Ursus and Dave Ruhl. Making their Saskatoon debut are The Great Mongol (from Manchuria) in a match with Johnny “Rubber Man” Walker; and Larry Henning, the Minnesota Viking, an outstanding footballer turned wrestler, against Torri Torres. Zubray is promoter, and popular prices of $2.00 (ringside), $1.50 (reserved) and $1.00 (general) will prevail.
